alex suarez is part of a new breed of producers based out of brooklyn carving out their own unique sound experimenting in the world of raw primordial electronics. under the name cienfuegos, he has prior releases on brooklyn s primitive languages imprint as well as the france s unknown precept label-with his new -lost in god s country- ep we see him debut on the new york centered bank records. through the four tracks cienfuegos harkens back to the time of early industrial music, not far off from the early transmissions of spk or even hinting at sounds akin to e.g. oblique graph. suarez has a knack for developing textures and tension in his music sewing it all together with plodding rhythms and the occasional creeper vocal. heavyweight stuff coming most highly recommended.

with the release of their last album “smoke” (2013) dapayk & padberg moved to a listening oriented direction, that also works perfectly off the dance floor. the new single “sink this ship” underlines their decision to follow this path in the future … maybe even with their upcoming album “harbour” later this year. on “sink this ship” eva padberg unfolds her matured voice, which shows more confidence than on previous records. dapayk skillfully puts her voice in a common scenery, where the straight beats are long over and where is space for extravagances and inventiveness. however, this is not a radical change turning away from the club sound. two of the most sought-after remixer artists at the moment, robot koch and bebetta, ensure the suitability for the dance floor. robot koch skillfully disassembles (for which he is known) the original. primarily he builds his version on the emotional base of eva’s vocal part and dapayk’s warm bass line. however, on the flip side, there is almost a contrasting change. the slight melancholy of the original track gives way for a typical bebetta techhouse beat, that flows through the club in a dreamy, yet simply irresistible manner.

after an impressive debut in early 2015, the boys behind the soviet veil have slow-cooked another frothy sampling of off-kilter edits from the motherland (or somewhere). never mind the long pause between releases, the tenacious attention to detail shows on all four jams. this is one to pick up if you re a serious club dj or not, really.

all good things take time, aussteiger said once. and indeed, it took a serious amount of time to get everything set for what soon will be known as dub disco s first release! we’ve been digging deep inside his tune collection. not only to make sure that the first three-tracker is a belter, but that it also showcases exactly the kind of musical approach we wanted as our personal imprint: to hell with a boring and homogeneous release that only represents one genre! we were looking for something that stands for itself, something that tells a story, something that is representative for what the artist stands for in a musical sense. and after a tedious quest, we carefully curated something we think is dope! kicking off the number one is a track disclosing the joint forces of berlin-based collective of musicians los wawis and aussteiger s capabilities as a remixer. here appears a psychedelic version of the track, which is carried by gentle guitars, a dubby bassline as well as the funky-trippy synthesizers that usher a tropical vibe onto the dancefloors. the starter on the flip is entitled “heimat” and comes around as a melancholic interpretation of aussteiger’s time in exile, a period that enabled him to craft his very own style. there is not much to say about this bomb that the ear doesn t catch instantly: this one is an honest earworm, with it s irresistibly arranged horns and a pervasive and driving bassline. to finish everything off, we went for a nasty banger, that carefully blends different aspects of the raving side of dance music. the electrifying broken beat and it’s haunting bassline are blended with an intense influence of acid.

fabrizio martina, the man behind jolly mare, is a champion turntablist, with a master degree in mechanical engineering and a phd in vibration dynamics under his belt. he s currently a full time producer and dj, taking part in festivals across europe from sonar to harvey s discotheque stage at bestival. a graduate of red bull music academy in new york, he has opened acts from masters at work to roy ayers, worked with the likes of soul clap and thundercat, and has already been featured in the likes of pitchfork, mixmag and okayplayer with his dream-like brand of cosmic disco and house.
